MAGMA 2 + 1 Sp - 2 Port Serial and 1 Port Parallel Multiplexor: TheMAGMA 2 Port Serial and 1 Port Parallel Sbus Multiplexor ( 2+1 Sp) is aSBus expansion board that combines two high speed asynchronous serialports with full modem control and one "Centronics" parallel port. Theserial ports can be used to connect to ISDN Terminal Adapters, modems,terminals or any other RS-232 device. The parallel port can be used toconnect to printers or plotters. It is fully compatible with SunMicrosystem's(TM) SPARC(R) computers and other computers compliant withSPARC(R) International SBus specifications. Serial Port Hardware: TheMAGMA 2+1 Sp is a single width SBus board based on the Cirrus Logic CD-1400 Serial/Parallel Asynchronous Communications Engine, a RISC I/Oprocessor capable of controlling both serial ports. The CD-1400 has manyadvanced features which minimize CPU overhead, the most importantinclude: - Each port's transmitter and receiver has it's own 12 byteFIFO buffer which minimizes the number of interrupts the CPU mustservice. - Flow control is handled automatically by the CD-1400, withoutintervention by the CPU. - Several MAGMA Sp boards can be configured in asystem. - The driver is optimized to reduce CPU utilization and treatsall of the Magma Sp boards in the system as a single device. Multipleservice requests can be handled in a single pass through the driver.Parallel Port Hardware: The parallel port also uses the same Cirrus LogicCD-1400 chip. The parallel interface has a 30 byte FIFO buffer whichserves as the interface to the SBus. Interrupts occur only when all ofthe data in the FIFO has been transferred, thereby minimizing CPUoverhead. The MAGMA 2+1 Sp can transfer data at rates up to 20,characters per second. Software: The MAGMA 2+1 Sp device driver isdesigned to take advantage of the board's high speed serial and parallelcapabilities. The driver is compatible with Solaris(R) 2.x and SunOS(TM)4.1+ and supports all features of both systems. It is delivered on a 3.5"diskette and features "plug and play" installation.
